Debate question: NO I don't think scientist will be able to if Betelgeuse explode or about to explode. Reason why I think that is because it is about 690 light years away. So basically they will able to catch it after 690 years later if it explode now. In addition, the article said that it might have exploded already but it will take 690 years to see it. Therefore, scientists will not be able to notice Betelgeuse if it explodes
Good point. Even if they do notice it, it might not be in a meaningful way, because of the time.
